We were delighted when our garden won a Gold Medal and also the Best Sustainable Garden award in the first ever Sustainable Gardens category at Hampton Court.
It featured a green roof and a rain garden to absorb rainwater and reduce the risk of flash flooding, as well as a rain chain and water butt to store water.
The rear wall was made from 100% recyclable, FSC approved Accoya timber (50 year durability softwood) from renewable resources. It was especially constructed by Westgate Joinery to be rebuilt as a Summerhouse after the show.
The garden was featured in the August issue of the RHS magazine 'The Garden' and also in the Sunday Times Homes supplement (2nd August 2009).
The much admired rusted reclaimed steel water butt and planters were made by Hot Metal Engineering.

Samaritans: Breathing Space…
Thinking Place Garden at Hampton Court 2008

Samaritans Garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2008 Designers: Wendy Allen and Catherine Kenny. Sponsors: Samaritans

For our first garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2008, we won a Bronze medal for Samaritans Breathing Space... Thinking Place. Shown below, the space represented themes which are key to Samaritans ethos, including face-to-face communication, giving time to listen, and providing an oasis of calm.

The garden was built in partnership with Greenroom Landscaping. Many visitors and other exhibitors commented on how peaceful the garden was, with the planting, design and high standards of craftsmanship all working together to achieve the brief.
